Bellingham's Democratic campaign headquarters during the 2016 campaign. Those are all volunteers, except for a couple. More activist photos here. We were so sure that Hillary would win. You can see more political activism photos here.

Chuckanut Bay twilight. Here are a few more views of the Bay.

Eagles getting ready to attack mallard ducklings. See what happens here.

Favorite coffee shop Black Drop. (The face of the girl in the foreground is distorted by the phone camera taking a pan shot.)

Ducks on Bullard Lake, in Cedar Grove Park, where I had my house on the shore of the lake. More views of the lake here.

The magnificent Sycamore (Plane) tree at Firehouse Cafe, in the Fairhaven neighborhood. Kids love to climb its sturdy branches. You can see a few lines of Tibetan prayer flags strung in the tree. When the former owner of Firehouse Cafe had to sell it, many residents of Bellingham feared that the person who bought the cafe would knock down both the cafe and the tree and build apartments. But a white knight, a resident of the neighborhood, bought it and saved our world.

This home is across from the sycamore.

The library's Japanese garden. The lantern was presented by Bellingham's sister city Tateyama.

Lake Padden, on the southern border of Bellingham. It's a public park with lots of pleasant trails. More views here.

Music in Maritime Park every Saturday during the summer. This is the really excellent Squirrel Butter String Band. (Yes, that's Mommy on the left.) Compared with audiences for the summer concerts in Elizabeth Park, we are quite a paltry few here. One in the know told me that it's probably because this park has the reputation of occasionally getting kind of edgy, because it's popular with the homeless, who are poorly represented by a few who can sometimes get pretty ornery.

Once a month folks gather for a night of Irish music jamming at Boundary Bay Brewery. Teri, the lady in the pink jacket, contributes Irish clog dancing.

And this is Jan Peters, who started the monthly jam session at Boundary Bay Brewery and keeps it going.

Bellingham's Gay Pride Parade draws a good crowd and lots of participants. More shots here.

Bellingham Downtown Co-operative food store and restaurant. This photo shows the restaurant, upstairs--a great place to work. Some people even eat here.

How Canyon Braff got up into that ancient Sycamore on Western Washington University campus, I can't imagine. I have walked 'round and 'round it more than once, trying to figure out how he did it and haven't been able to find anything low enough for him to hoist himself up on. Check out a couple other shots of the campus here.

Fairhaven sunset

San Juan Islands from Samish Heights, a toney new residential neighborhood of multi-million dollar homes a few miles southeast of Bellingham's downtown. Nice view of the San Juans, but you have to take the car whenever you want to pick up anything from the store.

This home is in the Lettered Streets neighborhood, just north of downtown Bellingham. The nieghborhood has modest homes that have a strong sense of their owner's character, unlike the fatcat homes in Samish Heights, which show only the developer's character. Check out a few more shots of the Lettered Streets neighborhood.
