This ancestral home in Taejang-ri, Seohu-myeon "was built by Kim Ga-jin (1846-1922), whose pen name was Dong Nong, in 1886, the 23rd year of King Kojong's reign in the Joseon Dynasty. He was one of the key figures of Korean provisional government in Peking during the Japanese invasion of 1592-1598. In 1890, Lee Hyeon-chan took over the house. Currently, it is used as a ritual hall..." So says the information signboard. Locals could not explain the two mistakes in the sign: the provisional government was never in Peking; it was established in 1919 in Shanghai and then moved to Chongqing. And the "Japanese invasion of 1592-1598" had nothing to do with this estate; the sign should read "the Japanese colonization of 1910 to 1945." But arguably, that has nothing to do with the estate either, since Kim relinquished ownership in 1890, before the provisional government was established.

This door, the closest to the gate, leads into the women's and children's area.

Looking back to where we entered.

The kitchen is the dark area on the right. The entrance is on the left.

This more imposing and comfortable area of the main building is for the menfolk.

The lower part of the building is the outhouse. The rest of the building constiutes a storeroom.

The neighbors. Just kidding in the thumbnail photo link on the Ganjae Jongtaek page.
