Hue has a tourist section (the Citadel and a square mile area southeast of the Citadel, across the Perfume River, but tourism is not yet an overwelming presence, so it was easy to spend and interesting and informative three weeks there exploring the rest of the city and its environs.

The only problem was the cold and rainy weather, which I foolishly expected to be sunny and warm, like they have in Ho Chi Minh City at this time of the year. The clouds sapped the air of its vibrant colors, which is evident in several of the photos. (Excuses, excuses.)
