Kali Gaja Wong runs down the east side of Jogja, from the slopes of Mount Merapi in the north and into the Opak River south of the city. It feeds the lake in the beautiful Gambira Loka Zoo as it meanders by. The kampungs along the river are poor but very clean and attractive, and the people living in them are very friendly.

The man is probably gathering volcanic ash, which flows down from the active volcano (Mt Merapi) that you can see in the background.

Homing pigeons, very popular throughout Jogja. They are used in competition and sales provide a good source of income.

This appears to be the ruins of a temple. Temples were built before Islam arrived. "One theory states it arrived directly from Arabia before the 9th century, while another credits Sufi merchants and preachers for bringing Islam to Indonesian islands in the 12th or 13th century either from Gujarat in India or directly from the Middle East."
