1. Collins COBUILD: Someone who is trustful trusts other people easily; a rather old-fashioned word.
2. "Investing" is preferred to "to invest" because of the following noun phrase (not infinitive verb phrase) "the best way," and also because the -ing form is generally more commonly used than the to-infinitive form. (From The Grammar Book.)
