Fran and I hiked up Sauk Mountain in 2018. Then Fran climbed to the very peak, while I generously gave up the opportunity to challenge the steep, slippery ascent to guard our lunch a couple hundred meters lower. In the photos you will see lots of smoke from forest fires.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Looks safe, but I had the feeling that if I were to trip or lose my balance it would be a non-stop roll to my death. Other hikers weren't sentient enough for that possibility to register.

This is where I guarded our lunch and tried successfully to avoid falling over the edge. (Whenever one of those ferocious mountain breezes rose I had to hug onto the tree.)
