When
Kim Sang-heon (1570-1652) retired his post as prime minister in Seoul
and returned to his hometown Seomidong, he gave lectures in Confucian
classics to his disciples in his lecture hall Kangrin dang. This tiny
hamlet of 30 homes maintains the lecture hall -- in a manner of speaking
-- with some support from the government. |

This
structure perched on a huge bolder houses the memorial tablet of Kim Sang-heon. |

The village of Seomidong lies at the foot of Kim Sang-heon's memorial tablet. |
|
Every
village has a tree that they designate and rever as village protector. |
|
When
we visited this village only a grandmother and this dog were to be seen. |
