Temple
Brahma Vihara Arama, in Buleleng province west of Singaraja, was built
in 1970 with local financing by Indonesian locals, with additional aid
from Thailand. It is also a monastery for meditation and retreat. It's
pretty high up a high foothill to the coastal range, and you get to it
after passing through a small village and a stop at Banjar
Hot Springs, where you can bathe if you like. Travelfish's
page presents the most accurate description of the temple's personality;
there are also a few Youtube videos that show (but don't explain) much
of the temple complex. For details about the temple, check out this
page. |

This
photo shows about half of the extensive compound. That's the Bali Sea

Ade,
how do you come up with these great perspectives? (Photo by Ade Alvian.) |

All
those identical stupas have earned the temple the sobriquet "little
Borobudur." Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist site, is on Java
Island. (Check out my
page on Borubudur.) |

I'll read that sign to you: "In 1982, His Holiness the Dalai Lama XIV carried out a state visit to Indonesia and made a spiritual trip to Brahmavihara Arama, which was driectly received by His Holiness Bhikku Girirakkhito Mahathera. Upon His Holiness approval and guidance the Dalai Lama above this foundation [of the pagoda to the right?] was built a stupa in which there were sacred objects and personal objects of His Holiness the Dalai Lama XIV, as a memorial and veneration of his Holiness the Dalai Lama XIV spiritual journey in Brahamavihara Arama. This stupa was built by combining Balinese and Tibetan architecture with character of tantrayana as a symbol." |

Since
so many of Ade's photos are on this page, might as well introduce him
to you. |
