Wat U Mong was built in 1297. It's quite a humble forest temple. It seems to have only one prayer hall, which lacks the elegance of others in Thailand. Or it might have the elegance, but it is hidden by the Western box that was built around the original building.

Wikipedia: "There are tunnels with Buddhist images below the chedi which can be easily explored. These tunnels were supposedly built by the King and painted with bush scenes so they could keep a famous but mentally deranged monk within the grounds of the monastery as he had a habit of just wandering off into the bush for days on end."

The most interesting part of Wat U Mong for me is the "Buddha field" of broken sculpture. The next few photos show its different aspects. I wanted to ask the someone if I could take one of two really nice pieces, as long as they were throwing them away, but I didn't want to appear the grasping, acquisitive person that I am.

Wat U Mong is also famous for this large, ancient stupa.
