Mae Hong Son is a prosperous, pleasant town in the mountains of northeast Thailand, on Thailand's border with Myanmar, hosting lots of very interesting wats in and around it.
 
 
 
 
This is almost all of Mae Hong Son. Wat Phra That is the temple on the mountain, in the upper right corner. The town is served by a single-prop plane.

This Shan lady comes to the night market at Mae Hong Son from a small village 30 kilometers out.
 
 
 
 
 
Wats Jong Kham and Jong Khlang across Lake Jong Kham in the center of Mae Hong Son. Every Saturday evening there is a show in the park on this side. When I visited a couple were doing a delightful Lanna traditional song and dance on the stage. Check it out here.
