This is Chom Phet Village, where my river boat pilot Joy lives with his family. We visited after our river ride.

This is the "pier" in Chom Phet's "harbor." The mud is very deep, and the villagers put bamboo poles there to help you get to terra firma. But who knows what else lies beneath the surface?

The mud was actually all the way up to my knees, because that's how deep I sank. On the way back to the boat from the village I kept wondering, as I sank lower and lower, "How many broken bottles and dead bodies have collected down there over the centuries?" But enough about me...

Chom Phet's Main Street. No electricity here. Not even a MacDonald's.

Village racing boats in the temple yard. A couple times a year nearby villages have a race, and the village temples store the boats..
